Coastguard Lake Brunner was started in 2004 by members of the Lake Brunner Yacht Club and continues to work closely with the club.

Initially we use the yacht club boat as our rescue vessel and in 2010 Coastguard New Zealand provided us with a bailment vessel “Magic of Auckland’ or MOA. Coastguard Canterbury gifted us the tow vehicle they had been using with MOA. In 2018 we purchased the vessel from CNZ at ‘book value’. In 2022 we received one of the Americas Cup 9m vessels and a tow truck. West Coast Community Trust and the sale of our old vessel helped fund our contribution to the cost and CNZ gifted the balance. Lake Brunner Rescue is a big step up for our capability.
