Coastguard Papakura formed in 1968.
The majority of our activity is in the Manukau harbour and out across the Manukau Bar. Our operating area extends down to the southern side of Raglan Harbour, go out to sea (West) for 12NM, turn and head up (North) to the southern side of Kaipara Harbour.
We are a full time mobile unit that can launch from any location in NZ. Our main launching ramp is Bottle Top Bay for the Manukau harbour, and we also use the Mangere bridge all tide ramp and Waiau Pa ramp. We use Kawakawa Bay ramps for launching into the Firth of Thames and Hauraki Gulf.
We are an active resource to our local Civil Defence and we can and have in the past provided land support to any incident / emergency.
Our team of volunteers work hard and are committed to the training we provide and delivering a world class Search and Rescue capability, 24hrs / 7 days and unconditional.
We have four teams, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo. Each team has approx. seven to ten members that are fully operational with the exception being Echo crew, which is for our members that cannot respond in time to emergency call outs, but come to all trainings, help with the retrieval of our vessels, cleaning tasks and attend our public displays and other activities. Our crews start their shifts on Tuesday from 1800hrs until 1800hrs the Tuesday following; we take great care to ensure our environment is healthy and enjoyable. We train hard, operate professionally and treat our role for "Saving Lives at sea" very seriously.
Meet Us/Training - training is held on 1st, 3rd & 4th Tuesday nights starting 1900hrs at 1 Wellington Park. Takanini. Committee meeting is held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month starting 1900hrs at 1 Wellington Park,Takanini.
